Empowering the Next Generation of Engineers: NEXGEN Tooling Supports WNE Jet Engine Team
At NEXGEN Tooling, we believe that innovation thrives when industry and education work hand in hand. That belief came to life recently through our partnership with the Western New England University (WNE) College of Engineering and their groundbreaking Jet Engine Team project.
Earlier this year, we were honored to support a group of WNE mechanical engineering students, many of whom are pursuing the university’s new Aerospace Concentration by donating precision cutting tools and offering technical manufacturing expertise for their student-led jet engine development initiative.
The project, which began in March 2024, challenged students to design and build a fully functional, small-scale jet engine. Through hard work, collaboration, and hands-on problem-solving, the team not only completed the manufacturing process but also began successful testing by April 2025. Their journey has been a remarkable example of how real-world engineering education can empower young minds and prepare them for the demands of the aerospace industry.
In a letter of appreciation from WNE Senior Professional Educator Roger Blinn, he emphasized how essential contributions from companies like NEXGEN were to the project’s success:
“It is no exaggeration to say that it would not be possible without the generous support that NEXGEN and a select group of other like-minded companies have provided.”
Roger Blinn, WNE
Our team was especially inspired by the initiative of a single student who first reached out seeking our support. We’re proud to be part of a story that not only advances engineering education but also proves the impact of trust, mentorship, and industry engagement.
As the current Jet Engine Team nears graduation, a new group of juniors is already gearing up to take the project further, aiming for greater efficiency, more thrust, and lighter engine designs. We’re excited about the opportunity to continue supporting this innovative and ambitious initiative.
To the WNE Jet Engine Team: congratulations on your success! And to all future engineers; you inspire us to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
